At a nice and sunny Friday night, the horrorpunkrockers of Wednesday 13 were present in Utrecht to darken the place up a little bit. The Dutch band The Loo did have the honour to open up for these guys in an almost fully filled venue.
When entering the venue The Loo was already playing and although I only saw three songs they succeeded to please me with their dirty rock ‘n roll. The very young audience did appreciate these guys a lot less and with their Guns N Roses-influenced music they probably would have got more feedback at the Arrow Classis Rock festival, which will be held in a couple of weeks in Nijmegen, but that on a side-note. All in all, the music was played very tight, the vocals were great and the songs were very catchy, but I did miss the solos of Slash though.
Around 21.30, a freaky horror intro started and Wednesday 13 took the stage. With their first song ‘Gimme Gimme Bloodshed’ they immediately created the right atmosphere and the whole crowd went completely nuts. A nice moshpit and many clapping and singing teenagers was the result of an energetic performance. Without much stoppage, they rocked with full speed through their set, which contained a couple of songs from the new album Skeletons, the familiar older ones and some Murderdolls covers. Although they say in the lyrics it is not true, they proved the opposite when playing ‘Not Another Teenage Anthem’. Together with ‘I Walked With A Zombie’, with a zombie-act a la Maiden’s Eddie, it was one of the highlights of the night and great anthems for the present audience. With Murderdolls’ ‘Love To Say Fuck’ the show ended around 22.45 in the best possible way and the band left, knowing they satisfied a lot of people with their show.
